Modesty Fashion Show

At this activity we discussed how the way we dress, speak, write, and act affect the way that others perceive us. The girls did great on their pop quiz and also had questions to ask a nice young man in our ward questions on how he feels about images that girls portray. After that we had a little fashion show, a what NOT to wear. The girls got quite a kick out of some of the outfits. Here is how it went....

Short Skirts: The worldly look you must agree is showing us a lot of knee. First, the knee and then the thigh.. some mini-skirts go way up high! So, if you want to sit at all.. and walk or run or cruise the mall.. better have more fabric in your dress. Remember modesty is always best! And please don't dare to reach or bend, because you WILL expose your end.

Halter Tops: Halters on horses are always quite fine. A horse needs a halter to keep him in line. A horse needs a halter to keep him on track. A horse needs a halter to guide him on back. A girl needs a sweatshirt or a turtleneck sweater. A girl needs a jacket or vest in cold weather. A girl needs a t-shirt or blouse to look fine. A girl dressed modestly is right on the line.

Gaudy Jewelery: Glitter, clutter, shiny gold. Mincing and jangling as we go. too many necklaces, bracelets and rings, these are all of the worldly things. A bracelet, a necklace, a ring or two, are very flattering and graceful on you. but when you put oh more and more you like like a walking jewelery store.

Tight Clothing: Then, there's clothes so tight and revealing, just to breath, she is numb, no feeling. Is it really worth the pain and duress to feel like a mummy with a full figure distress? If up on the staircase you venture to tread, please puleeze take the elevator instead!

Slit Skirt: A skirt with a slit, to some seems real 'hip'. A dress with a slice may to others seem nice. If a gown has a slash, we say its quite 'dash'. And a split in the skirt is oh, just so pert! A lit, a slash, a slice or a split may be what the fashion experts call 'it' but you'd better take care of that mighty long tear. You may just end up showing your pink underwear!

Gothic: The Gothic look of painted face for Halloween might have its place with eyes and lips as dark as night to others.. such a ghastly sight! the look you wear tells quite a story, your self-esteem with virtues and glory. A daughter of God and a princess too is what our Father bequeaths to you. Remember, girls, and know its true.... there's always someone watching you!

Spaghetti Straps: the worldly look would have you think spaghetti isn't something good to eat. Instead.. straps so small it's hard to see if they're part of the dress of part of thee. that hungry date might take a bite and you'd be topless for the night.

Plunging Neckline: A beautiful girl in a beautiful dress looks gorgeous and stunning, I confess. Many eyes will want to admire this girl, if she's modest in her attire. But a plunging neckline.. we must beware will make the wrong person stop and stare. And if on a date with some buff guy, his eyes must gaze upon the sky. He dare'st not look on thy sweet face, for fear of looking in the wrong place! And if that dress is backless too oh dear whats the poor feller to do? So if you're going to take the plunge make sure your necklines are modestly done!

Body Piercing: To be "holy" does not mean that we must take it to the extreme.. of piercing nose and tongue and eyes. To do so isn't sensible, nor is it wise! Piercing this and that and there shows that you really do not care for the body that you were given by a loving Father in Heaven. The temple that you mare will forever yet to be scarred. So stand for truth and righteousness! Be "holy" and be free. Take care of the only body you'll have and receive blessings through eternity!

Tattoos: Permanent tattoos.. is that what you choose? They won't wash off, they are always there, and they will go with you everywhere! Hearts and skulls and dragon's feet. Are these what you want your grandchildren to meet? Now, it doesn't take ink, nor does it take dye to show that true beauty lies deep inside!

Swimsuits: If you're looking for some swimwear to buy don't choose those leg holes cut way up high! They're fashioned to almost reach your waist. My goodness! What keeps that bottom in place? There's hardly any fabric there to cover parts that shouldn't be bare! And necklines so low that one can see, when you bend over, clear to the knee! Modesty they say is out of style. Why, on some nude beaches they wear just a smile. So when you shop.. your cash to spend.. make sure you're covered to the end!!

Pam's Holiday Concert

We really try and make it to as many extracurricular activities the girls have. Included in this is their musical concerts put on by the schools they attend. Tonight was Pam's holiday concert.

Pam is in the intermediate band, playing the clarinet. She is so talented! Her group sounded great!

Pam sat very professional the whole time and was right on cue with the conductor.

Tonight's activity was a BLAST! Sister Perry was in charge and did an awesome job! It was a joint activity (meaning with group up with the YM). First we met at the church and played a white elephant gift exchange. All gifts were bought from the $1 store - sorry to anyone expecting an I-Phone!! But there were a few items fought over and things got really funny.

After the gift exchange we hopped on the Gillihan's trailor and went caroling. We drove around a neighborhood... looking for the Bishop... and sung Christmas carols to many people.


All the youth had a good time, everyone wanted to keep going when time was up. This is a really fun activity we've been doing for the past few years in the Coronado Ward and we hope to keep the tradition going in years to come!

Sadly it was a final activity with Brielle and Sunnie as part of our Young Women family. They are both moving in the next week and tonight was their last time with us. They are both amazing girls and will be terribly missed. They each bring a unique spirit to the group that everyone loves! Good luck girls, we will miss you!!!!

Young Women in Excellence

Tonight the South Stake put on the annual Young Women in Excellence program. It was an awesome program, testimonies were shared, beautiful songs were sung, we viewed slide shows and really felt the spirit. Keyonna and Kandace both received recognition for values they have passed off, and Keyonna was part of the movie they showed, where she was interviewed out at the temple. We are so proud of our girls and all the hard work they are doing in Personal Progress. Next year we will have every girl up getting awarded!!

After the program we met in the cultural hall for refreshments and were able to view the table set up (thanks to Sister Gillihan!!) that displayed the girls' talents.

Service Project

Tonight's activity we joined up with the Young Men and did a service project. We helped the boy scouts by placing food donation bags on door steps in our ward boundaries. People can fill the bags with canned food and the boy scouts will come back, gather them up, and donate the food.

We met at the church for opening exercises and had donuts and water with the boys then split off to our designated areas.

The YW split up into 2 different groups to try and cover more ground and keep it a little safer. It was pretty cold and these girls had a lot of walking ground to cover but they all did GREAT! We are thankful for the big hearts that these girls have and all they do to help their community.

Personal Progress Activity

Tonight Sister Gillihan helped us with our "Divine Nature" goal! We learned that we all need to work on the talents that Heavenly Father has blessed us with. One might be cooking... So we made some yummy treats - corn flake crunch and rice krispy treats.

The girls had a blast in the kitchen, they were all on their own. They were given the recipe and the ingredients needed and went at it. They even cleaned on their own!

The treats turned out delicious! Thanks Sister Gillihan!

Unfortunately Sister Bagley has moved to California. It was a really good move for her family but we are all so sad about it. She has been such a fantastic leader in the Young Women's program and she will be dearly missed. For her last activity Crystal and her dad, Leo, brought in some authentic Lumpia (Philippine Spring Rolls). Then we did some manicures, celebrated Crystal & Mariah's birthdays, and played some going away games for Sister Bagley. Each of the girls went around and said why they are thankful for Sister Bagley. Of corse there were some tears... ;)

Here is our group on Sister Bagley's last Sunday. Sister Bagley : We will miss you tremendously. Your testimony has poured out onto all of us and we are all stronger by being able to be in this program with you. We wish you well on your new adventures... just PLEASE remember to come and visit us often! We LOVE you!!!!

On a very exciting and happy note - we are so thrilled that Sister Rachel Yanke is our new president! Could we ask for a better person to fill the spot?! We know that Sister Yanke loves all the girls to death and she will be such a great leader!
